Before You Buy a Home
We know how important it is to have everything working correctly
before you move into your new home.
That's why you should always request an electrical inspection.
A Few Things an Inspection Includes:
- All standard outlets inside and out
- All specialty appliance outlets
- All lighting
- Electrical Panel
- Any visible wiring
 An Inspection Does Not Include:
- Appliances
- Gas or propane heating
- Anything not directly wired to the house
Red Flags to Watch For
- Look for the use of extension cords to supply power to lights, garage door
openers, etc. Extension cords do not conform to the electrical code.
- Some finance companies require a GFI in the kitchen, bathrooms and
garage.
This is an outlet with a black and red button in the middle. They became
code and were installed after
the mid 70's as an extra safety precaution.
- If the home is an older home and has a mixture of 2 prong and 3
prong outlets you need to have all the outlets checked to see if they are properly
grounded. If you plug an appliance or computer into an outlet that is not properly
grounded you could do serious damage to the appliance.
